Bere'sheet Ballet is a dance group that is uniquely comprised of women who are survivors of various forms of abuse: cancer, domestic violence, addictions. Though this was not the plan of the company, we believe that it is the way God designed it. Not all of the dancers are "survivors" but as the Company grew it seemed that it took on a life of its own, forming its own focus, due to the many and varied events in the lives of the women and men who were drawn to dance with Bere'sheet Ballet.

Desiring to give to their community, and because of these experiences of Bere'sheet Ballet's members, "The Genesis Scholarship Fund" was created in 2000, after the second performance of "The Genesis Ballet." This fund has been a source of help for many different needs. Breast prostheses have been purchased for those women who have suffered the ravages of breast cancer and had mastectomies and have had no insurance or financial means with which to buy a breast prosthesis. Wigs worn during chemotherapy have also been purchased by the Fund. This has often been a positive life-changing event in the lives of many of these people who had become recluses, suffering from depression and poor self-image. Compression arm bands have been bought for those suffering from lymph edema. Groceries and gasoline have been paid for, for those struggling to look for a job or are constantly dealing with poverty. Books for college education and graduation fees-many people having gone on to a higher education, have been paid for, as well as help with doctor bills. Much has been, and is done with the Fund. It is a hands-on ministry, making a significant difference in the lives of many-one individual at a time. Medicare and The American Cancer Society have referred patients to Bere'sheet Ballet.
