Marie
Plauche'-Gustin, Artistic Director
Marie Plauche'-Gustin,
Artistic Director of Bere'sheet Ballet formed the
sacred dance company in 1998 after serving in other
forums in the sacred dance world since 1989. Her
vision was to move beyond the comfort zones of church
walls, into the community, exporting excellent artistic
expression utilizing many dance languages to communicate
the things of the Spirit, and perform benefits for
women's special healthcare needs. Bere'sheet Ballet's
unique dance style developed through the melding
of these many movement qualities, becoming a language
in itself. Plauche'-Gustin has written, choreographed,
directed and performed in four major productions
for Bere'sheet Ballet: "The Genesis Ballet,"
"The Genesis Ballet 2," "I Can Hear
God Singing," and "Restoration of Innocence-The
Genesis Ballet 3." A graduate of Louisiana
State University with a B.A. degree in Speech and
Dramatic Arts with minors in English and dance,
Ms. Gustin trained for fourteen years prior to dancing
with Ballet Joyeux, in Lake Charles, Louisiana,
dancing roles in "The Nutcracker" and
"Les Papillion." While at L.S.U., she
danced in "West Side Story," "Oklahoma,"
and "Funny Girl." Studies at Stephen College
at Perry-Mansfield, the Pacific School of Religion,
and dance instruction under such notables in the
sacred dance world as Carla de Sola, Judith Rock
and Cynthia Winton-Henry, led her to the Masters
Certification Program under the mentorship of Dr.
Jo Anne Tucker, (Hebrew Union College, New York;
Artistic Director: Avodah Dance Ensemble). She will
be certified as a Movement Specialist in Religious
Art. Bere'sheet Ballet was named "Best Support
Group" by The Houston Press in 2001. They were
featured in The Houston Chronicle twice in 2000.
They were also the featured guest artist group at
the 2002 Sacred Dance Festival in Louisiana, where
they will return in 2004.
