About Bere'Sheet

Bere'sheet, B'r'sheet, Br'sh't, however you spell it, is the first word of the Old Testament or Torah. It means Genesis, or "In the Beginning". It was chosen as the name of this dance company to represent the new beginnings of the lives of its members, who found healing through the art of dance.

Sacred is defined as: holy, set apart for some holy or religious purpose. Liturgy is defined as: the form of worship in a religious service. The Artistic Director of Bere'sheet Ballet, Marie Plauche' Gustin, defines sacred or liturgical dance as creative movement expressing the manifestation of the Spirit of God. She believes "one movement done well, with the right intent of the heart, can change a life".

Quality of movement, expressing the sacred, is the goal of Bere'sheet Ballet.

Dance and technique classes are taught at all levels (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) with an injury-free warm-up, regaining flexibility for bodies of all ages. Workshops, seminars, dance team training, ministry in worship spaces and more are available through Bere'sheet Ballet.

To date, Bere'sheet Ballet has performed five full length original ballets, two mixed repertoire concerts and more than five live concerts with Grammy and Dove Award winner Cynthia Clawson. Bere'sheet has also been a special guest in sacred dance workshops and seminars and has contributed their talent to various other concerts in the community.

Their mission, as a 501(c)3 charitable organization, is to perform concerts for the benefit of women's special health care needs. This also manifests through the Genesis Fund, which has aided women and families in crisis, helping financially with a variety of concerns: medical, personal, household, psychiatric, educational, etc.
